What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact, functional form of exercise that is effective and safe for most people. The original Mat Pilates Exercises were developed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates to restore the optimal alignment of the body and improve movement patterns.

His main focus was to restore the correct functioning of the core postural muscles (which keep the spine correctly aligned). But he didn’t stop there. He developed exercises to increase the strength, mobility, and flexibility of the whole body.

One of the many benefits of regular practice is decreased muscle imbalances responsible for poor posture and can lead to many health issues such as chronic back pain.
Pilates practice requires a level of concentration to breathe and perform the exercises under control. Overtime, the ability to focus on the correct movement patterns and an improved breathing technique can lead to improved body awareness, reduced stress levels, and improved mood.

Pilates has several proven health benefits, both mental and physical, and it is a form of exercise that is recommended by a wide range of healthcare specialists.
